The Penn Slammer® was designed for the serious angler targeting trophy fish. An over-sized, sealed drag located under-the-spool ensures consistent and smooth performance. The Slammer takes into account all the requirements of durability and power expected from such a product, Penn engineers designed a frame from a special high-strength alum-alloy that would provide the housing for the powerful gearing system. Realizing that anglers would be exerting more and more pressures on drags due to braided line, it was decided that the main support shaft for the spool would need to be drastically oversized and triple supported throughout the frame so that alignment and ballance would not be compromized under the most intense pressure. Capatializing on their breakthrough in spinning reel drag design, Penn engineers took advantage of the large and under utilized area beneath the spool, allowing an oversized drag washer to be utilized. This increased drag ranges and smoothness, and fish stopping power. Advanced computer modeling allowed further fine tuning and balance resulting in the most durable and long lasting spinning reel on the market.

Live Liner

The Live Liner drag was built for fishing live bait. Simply pull the switch back and the front drag disengages and runs off the Live Liner drag, which is a much lighter drag that lets your live bait swim free. When you get bite, simply start cranking the handle and the Live Liner drag disengages, the front drag engages, and you're tight on your fish.
